THE ONE SCHOOL STUDENTS SUCCEED ONCE AGAIN IN THE HSBC BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION

Juniors Fabrice Salas and Natasha Rodriguez have successfully made it through the first round of this school year’s business plan competition sponsored and organized by HSBC. They have completed the Business Plan Writing Seminar held last 16 December 2006, which was given to all the teams who made the cut. Fab and Tash are now preparing to compete in the 2nd round of the competition in January 2007. Hopefully they will make it to the finals in February 2007.

They are competing with 36 other finalists for the grand prize which include an HSBC trophy for each team member, PhP 200,000 self development funds for the team, a 6-month scholarship to AIM’s Venture into Entrepreneurship programme, a chance to compete in the Regional Grand Finals in Hong Kong, and a one-week study tour to the USA.

The HSBC Young Entrepreneur Awards is a business plan writing competition designed to foster ingenuity and the entrepreneurial spirit among Filipino students to become future business leaders. The competition began in Hong Kong in 2000, and since then has become a regional contest covering Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

THE ONE SCHOOL WINS FEU BIZ PLAN COMPETITION

A team composed of two freshmen, two sophomores and one junior bagged the 2nd Prize in the Open Category in a Business Plan Competition hosted at the 8th FEU Business Show last October 3, 2006. Jose Rodriguez, Jahan Kalam, Camill Vazquez, Cheers Resultan and Fab Salas proudly represented The One School and brought home the trophy.

The business they pitched was called Halo, Inc., which focuses on providing the much needed service of funeral organizing. This group argued that funerals have traditionally been very depressing occasions when it need not be so. By creating a ceremony in-line with the lifestyle of the deceased, the family can celebrate the loved one’s life rather than his/her death. Moreover, families are given the time to grieve since they can pass on many of the menial responsibilities to the Halo team in order to focus on the more important task of being with/consoling other loved ones.
